On April 15th Bonhams New York will host two fine jewelry auctions, one comprised of dazzling jewels from a Prominent Private Collection and the other sale one of Fine Jewelry. For the former sale, which features a personal jewelry collection amassed over several decades, the 82 magnificent pieces in the sale exude the confidence and glamour of its owner, a noted philanthropist and an undisputed member of the ‘jet set’.
“The collector of these jewels is a woman of great taste and distinguished style, who had personal relationships with a number of jewelers, including Harry Winston, Bulgari, Sabbadini and David Webb. She collected beautiful pieces of excellent quality to wear and enjoy,” explained Susan Abeles, Bonhams US Head of Jewelry. “We are honored to offer this exceptional collection.”
While bold, vibrant colors remain an overriding theme for this esteemed collection, highlights from the sale are led by a Bulgari ring set with a rectangular brilliant-cut natural fancy intense yellow diamond weighing 21.07 carats (est. $550,000-750,000). Another brightly colored item is a stunning emerald and diamond Bulgari bead necklace, whose rarity derives from the uniform green color of its 104 emerald beads as well as the subtle graduation of the beads to form this exquisite masterpiece (est. $200,000-300,000).
While this remarkable personal collection speaks volumes of its owner’s elegant chicness, her favorite piece from the collection was also a wardrobe staple: an eighteen karat gold and ancient coin Bulgari necklace from Rome (est. $15,000-20,000).
“This beautiful collection speaks to the fashion of the times, when the owner paired her jewels with couture by Valentino, Hermès, Bob Mackie, and Bill Blass,” said Virginia Salem, Director of the Jewelry Department at Bonhams in New York.
Rounding out the highlights is s 7.04 carat pear-shaped diamond solitaire ring from Harry Winston, a pair of Harry Winston diamond earclips (est. $60,000-80,000), a beautifully crafted diamond Cartier Maillon Panthere bracelet (est. $50,000-70,000), and two South Sea cultured pearl necklaces by Bulgari (est. $25,000-35,000 and $20,000-30,000).
