Earlier this week, I ventured up to Stephen Russell for a quick peek at the store’s incredible collection. The first piece that I saw was truly unforgettable in it’s unique beauty and rarity: A Rare French Art Deco Fancy “Steel” Grey 10-carat Diamond Ring.

Upon hearing the word “grey” as a descriptor for a diamond’s color, one might cringe and assume the worst, but this was a beautiful “steel” grey. Unlike the De Beers’ grey diamond, which I’ve seen up close and found it rather lackluster, this old emerald-cut grey diamond reflected dazzling light with an unbelievably crystal clear, cool effect, all the while refracting the light into brilliant colors as any high-quality diamond should. What a treat to see!

If anyone should promote diamonds of this color, then this “steel” colored stone should be its poster-child!
