Star Light, Star Bright in Verdura

JO

With this summer flying by so quickly, it’s often hard to stop and take a moment to appreciate this most magical of seasons.  Summer is filled with youth, freedom and adventure; summer is children splashing around in turquoise-colored pool water, the slight sour sweetness of refreshing ice-cold lemonade on a particularly hot day, and the quiet nights spent staring up into the night’s sky wishing upon the stars.  Last night, I found myself staring at those twinkling stars, which seem to sparkle a little bit brighter in summer, mesmerized by their cosmic beauty.

I’m not the only one entranced by these luminous spheres of light; the great late jewelry designer Fulco di Verdura found much inspiration for his jewels from the celestial heavens.  From Verdura’s Constellation Bracelet to his Pleiades Earclips, stars remain an enduring motif in Verdura’s jewelry, both past and present.

For this week’s Jewelry Obsession, two estate Verdura bracelets, recently added to FD Gallery‘s collection, prominently feature glittering diamond stars.  They immediately struck my fancy, enchanting me to wish upon a star for them to be mine.  Until that wish comes true, my obsession will just have to suffice.
