With the 2014 World Cup and 2016 Olympic Games on the horizon, Brazil’s star continues to rise as the world’s attention will soon be focused on this South American country. For those outside of the sports realm, there’s another reason to cast your gaze towards Brazil: São Paolo-native jewelry designer Fernando Jorge.
With a decade of experience of designing for various jewelers in Brazil, Jorge finally ventured out on his own, earning a master’s degree in jewelry design at the prestigious Central Saint Martins in London prior to launching his eponymous line in 2010. The young Brazilian has since built a cult following of jewelry lovers who find his collections sensual, sexy and intensely colorful.
Fluid curves and electric lines shape the fresh feminine aesthetic of Jorge’s jewelry designs, his pieces imbued with an organic sensuality and a natural flexibility that exude elegance punctuated with bursts of vivid color. His most eye-catching collection, aptly named “Electric”, conveys that exact sentiment with its energetic composition of various shaped stones like richly-hued emeralds and tanzanites. A nod to the female form, flowing shapes and the sculptural quality of his “Fluid” and “Swallow” collections embrace precious materials in their most sensual forms, using stones cut in very unique ways.
Between designing in London and watching his jewels being made in São Paulo, Jorge’s hard work is finally paying off as his business continues to expand globally. This fall, Barneys New York and LA added his jewels to their fine jewelry line-up, bringing Jorge’s lines to America’s most exclusive fashion headquarters. Other retailers of Fernando Jorge’s jewelry are Grange Hall in Dallas, Couturelab and Browns in London and Luisa via Roma in Florence, Italy.
