Sotheby’s Magnificent Jewels – New York – April 29th, 2014

Sotheby's Magnificent Jewels Sale NY April 2014

Lots from the second spring Magnificent Jewels auction at Sotheby’s New York were released online yesterday. After last year’s jam-packed December sale in New York, this year’s spring auction will ease in to what promises to be an exciting year.

Lot 458 - Exceptional Platinum, Sapphire and Diamond Ring

An Exceptional Platinum, Sapphire and Diamond Ring (estimate: $4,000,000 – $7,000,000)

Weighing a whopping 28.18 carats, one of the finest Kashmir sapphires ever to be offered at auction is the star jewel of the 458-lot sale. The exceptionally rare emerald-cut stone exhibits the velvety blue hues inherent of the world’s finest Kashmir sapphires. As noted by the American Gemological Laboratories, the gem has been labeled a “Classic Kashmir” and represents the highest quality of stones from the region. Christopher Smith, the President of the American Gemological Laboratories, put it best when he wrote, “For the aficionado of Kashmir material, this gemstone represents a superb example of why Kashmir has earned the status for being the source for sapphire that all others are compared.” This extraordinary stone is expected to fetch in excess of $5 million.

Lot 207 - Magnificent Platinum, Fancy Intense Orangy Pink Diamond and Diamond Ring

Magnificent Platinum, Fancy Intense Orangy Pink Diamond and Diamond Ring (estimate: $6,000,000 – $7,000,000)

Another stunning stone that will be up on the block in New York later this month is a magnificent Fancy Intense Orangy Pink diamond and diamond ring. Estimated to bring in more then $7 million, this brightly colored diamond weighing 15.23 carats glows a delightfully fresh shade of pink perfectly in the spirit of the spring season.

Jewels from the Estate of Eydie Gormes will be offered for sale at Sotheby’s New York Magnificent Jewels auction in April 2014.

Also featured in the sale are the timeless diamond jewels of Eydie Gorme, including her collection of diamond rings in every classic shape. Gorme and her husband Steve Lawrence reigned for decades as America’s most sophisticated and award-winning pop vocal duet. The couple, known for their “old-married-folk” banter, appeared regularly on The Carol Burnett Show and The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.

Lot 392 - Platinum, Sapphire and Diamond Bracelet, Cartier 2

Art Deco jewels by Cartier are among the highlights of the sale

Other highlights of the sale include an elegant Art Deco emerald and diamond bracelet and an iconic ‘big cat’ bangle, both by Cartier, an invisibly-set ruby and diamond flower brooch by Oscar Heyman & Brothers, and the 36.53-carat ‘El Dorado’ emerald.

Here are my favorites from the sale.
