As the spring 2015 ready-to-wear fashion shows wrap up in Paris, it’s clear that there are plenty of great styles to look forward to next year. Unfortunately, we have to get through another long, cold winter first. Luckily, fashion designers have already paved the way for the hottest trends to wear this fall and I’ve selected some fabulous jewels to match!
Without question, the Swinging Sixties are back with a modern twist this fall. Mod prints and psychedelic designs swept the runways of Valentino, Prada, Altuzarra and many more earlier this year, and jewels that catch the vibe of the decade groove mighty fine with their 21st century styles.
Animals of seemingly every kind flocked to fall fashions this year, from Valentino’s flying pheasants to Dolce & Gabbana’s menagerie of curious critters. Jewelry has always had a fondness for Mother Nature’s furry friends, so their golden renditions charmingly accent their fellow fashions.
Speaking of animal prints, the fierce furs of the Animal Kingdom’s most ferocious felines roared on the runways and into the fall collections of Balmain, Céline, Giorgio Armani and Givenchy. Just as in fashion, the panther remains a favorite motif in jewelry too.
Don’t be surprised if there’s a gold rush this fall since the precious metal shimmered heavily on the runways earlier this year in the Fall 2014 collections. In all its various shades and fabric forms, gold dazzled the collections of Prada, Chloé, Marchesa, Moschino and many more, so it’s only fitting that gold jewelry be the go-to accessory.
Yet another trend from the Animal Kingdom, feathers flapped about the runways as well in a number of the Fall 2014 collections, including Alberta Ferretti, Lanvin, and Naeem Khan. Luckily, the feather motif happens to flourish in jewelry from both the past and present.
Fairytales are an endless source of fantastical fashion ideas, and this fall a number of dresses looked to storybook heroines like Snow White (Alexander McQueen), Little Red Riding Hood (Dolce & Gabbana) and Cinderella (Oscar de la Renta) for inspiration. Princesses, both real and fictional, have always paired their gorgeous evening gowns with the most sensational jewels, and that trend shows no sign of stopping.
