The following day, December 8th, Boston-based auction house Skinner will host its Fine Jewelry auction, which is led by a highly important heart-shaped diamond. Formerly part of a prominent British American family, the remarkable stone – of D color and VVS2 clarity – is also noted to be Type IIa. Purchased by the family’s patriarch in the 1880s or 1890s, the diamond is most likely from the famous Golconda region from which a number of the world’s most famous diamonds hail – the Koh-i-Noor, the Hope and Wittelsbach-Graff among them. The sale highlights also include an important natural pearl single strand necklace, an elegant diamond clip by Suzanne Belperron and one of Raymond Yard’s iconic “House” brooches.
Important Diamond, the heart-shape diamond measuring approx. 21.27 x 25.05 x 8.02 mm, and weighing 31.25 cts., within a platinum ring mount by Harry Winston.
