As the spring auction season comes to a close, the June sales offer one last opportunity to buy before the summer break. Important diamonds dominated April and May, however more everyday pieces rule the auction block in June. Case in point is the selection curated in Bonhams California Jewels sale on Monday, June 13th.
A diamond and 18k gold Greek key necklace (est. $3,000-5,000)
At 420 lots, the auction is double the size of Bonhams Fine Jewelry sales. Estimates range from $800 to $30,000, however the majority of lots are estimated at $5,000 and under. Continuing to be au courrant in estate jewelry is wearable, “everyday” gold jewelry and this sale includes plenty of diverse, versatile examples, both signed and unsigned.
A diamond and 18k gold bangle bracelet, together with a pair of glass intaglio and 18k gold earrings, Elizabeth Locke (est. $1,500-2,500)
The sale includes classic designs by renowned jewelry houses, including Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, Tiffany & Co., Bulgari, and Chopard as well as 20th century and contemporary designers like Verdura, Wander, Elizabeth Locke and Asch Grossbardt. Of particular note is a number of coral designs by Italian jewelry house Bulgari.
A coral and 18k gold necklace, together with a coral, diamond and 18k gold ring, Bulgari (est. $4,000-6,000)
Three cultured pearl, coral bead and 18k gold cuff bracelets, Bulgari (est. $4,000-6,000)

A pair of 18k gold ear clips, Wander, French (est. $1,500-2,000)
Like all jewelry sales, diamond-set jewels are prevalent throughout, ranging in designs from the turn of the 20th century to today. However, I find the variety of gold jewelry to be the most exciting in this particular sale. In the unsigned department, highlights include a fantastic Italian fringe necklace (est. $2,500-3,500), a chic Mexican gold coin bracelet, circa 1945 (est. $2,200-3,200), and a diamond and gold Greek key motif necklace (est. $3,000-5,000).
